Dugdale Bros & Co celebrated its 120th anniversary on 12th September with a history-honouring dinner at its imposing Victorian headquarters on Northumberland Street in the centre of Huddersfield.
Still family owned, Savile Row Bespoke Association associate member Dugdale Bros is the last luxury cloth merchant to remain in the centre of Huddersfield, which is the home of Britain’s fine worsted industry.
Location has always been a key element of Dugdale’s success as its cloth is woven locally and finished in the markedly soft Pennine water, which gives it its uniquely smooth and seductive handle.
Managing Director Simon Glendenning commented after the event: “Champagne and canapés were served in our very utilitarian trimmings department. Then, following a brief journey through the sales and admin office, which offered an interesting blend of ‘30s and ‘70s décor, we climbed the stairs to our Victorian cutting room which had been transformed into a magnificent dining room. Twenty-six guests from around the world sat at the four 15-feet long solid oak cutting tables and enjoyed a delicious meal of local Yorkshire produce prepared by restaurateur Eric Paxman. The juxtaposition of the dinner with the venue made it all the more enjoyable and it may well become an annual event.”
