The future of the best British tailoring has been further safeguarded with the creation of the new Level 5 Diploma in Bespoke Tailoring.
Developed by Savile Row Bespoke Association Director Su Thomas, expert in assessment and work based learning Sue Fraser and UKFT, the qualification provides learners with the practical skills and knowledge needed to work in bespoke garment production and the luxury garment market as a highly skilled tailor or cutter.
The qualification meets the new Institute for Apprenticeships directed trailblazer Apprenticeship Standards for Bespoke Tailoring.
Combining the craft of bespoke garment production with key production skills, the Level 5 diploma will give learners the opportunity to develop industry-relevant knowledge and learn high levels of speed, accuracy, precision and consistency. This will include mastering disciplined processes such as hand stitching, finishing and pressing and building a knowledge of textile brands and standards while developing superb customer relations,
The qualification comprises one mandatory unit followed by a choice of specialised pathways in tailoring and cutting.
