Savile Row will be bedecked with bunting to celebrate the coronation of Kings Charles III.
The Savile Row Bespoke Association (SRBA) and its members have collaborated with The Campaign For Wool to produce one full mile of red, white and blue wool bunting to decorate Savile Row, Clifford Street, Old Burlington Street, and parts of neighbouring St. James’s. The bunting has been produced by SRBA members’ apprentices with wool Melton from the renowned mill AW Hainsworth in Yorkshire.
King Charles is the Patron of The Campaign For Wool and has tirelessly supported it and championed the environmental credentials of wool since its incarnation in 2010. The King has also visited numerous regions of the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and South Africa to engage with wool growers on how best to explain and promote the distinct advantages and ecological benefits of wool in all its end uses.
Anda Rowland, Vice Chair of Anderson & Sheppard and Chair of the SRBA, commented: “Savile Row has had a very long relationship with The Royal Household. To celebrate the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III, apprentice cutters and tailors put their skills to work to create bespoke woollen bunting from remnant Melton cloth from Hainsworth - a British mill with a remarkable heritage across the decades, especially with military uniforms. Over a mile of wool bunting will hang from 100% wool rope, ensuring it will be completely biodegradable, plastic-free and reusable. This has been a project close to everyone’s hearts for a once-in-a lifetime and very special occasion.”
The SRBA members which have produced bunting are Anderson & Sheppard, Cad & The Dandy, Chittleborough & Morgan, Dege & Skinner, Edward Sexton, Gieves, Hackett, Henry Poole, Huntsman, Kathryn Sargent, Norton & Sons, Richard Anderson, and Richard James.
The bunting will be unveiled on Savile Row on Thursday 27th April.
