Work In Progress

Works are now well underway to improve the public realm and overall customer experience on Savile Row.

An initiative of the Westminster Council-led Savile Row Strategic Group, of which the Savile Row Bespoke Association (SRBA) is an active member, the scheme will replace and widen all the footways, reconstruct the carriageway in a slightly narrower configuration and install silver granite parking pads on the west side of the street.

The new design will set off the historic buildings of Savile Row and enhance the overall elegance and amenity of the street. The best materials will be used to match the international reputation of Savile Row and the end result will celebrate the presence of its tailors by drawing attention to the lower ground floor workshops.

The design will also accentuate the linear qualities and rhythm of the street and create a greater sense of continuity between its two distinct north and south sides. It also aims to minimise the adverse effects of vehicles by rationalising the kerbside parking and waiting and loading zones, which will also improve views across the street and facilitate pedestrian crossing.

The works are estimated to cost almost £1m, with the funds coming from Westminster Council, Transport For London and a number of individual SRBA members.

The works are due to be completed in the autumn of this year and will contribute hugely to maintaining and promoting Savile Row’s position as the world centre of the best bespoke tailoring.
