Following on from the tremendous interest generated in sewing by the various hubs that have been making scrubs for care workers during the pandemic, UKFT has launched Sew Connect.
The Sew Connect initiative aims to capitalise on the renewed national enthusiasm for sewing and help meet the growing demand for garments made in the UK. The UK fashion and textile industry has recently been struggling to attract new recruits to manufacturing, which is impacting on its ability to meet demand.
UKFT has opened accounts on Facebook and Instagram to connect potential employees with employers.
Adam Mansell, CEO of UKFT, commented: “It has been incredible to see such dramatic public response to the scrubs shortage. We wanted to highlight vacancies to volunteers that might consider a career in our industry.
“The manufacture of fashion and textiles is growing steadily in the UK and companies across the UK are looking for skilled sewing machinists, garment makers and textile specialists. It would be great if we could help our manufacturing industry grow out of this crisis.”
