Savile Row Concours Success

This year’s Concours on Savile Row was a great success, with the sun shining down on a truly spectacular collection of cars and in excess of an astonishing ten thousand visitors.

Our famous street was covered with a red carpet for the two days of the event, and the vehicles on display perfectly represented the past and future of motoring, with the likes of the first Bentley to compete at Le Mans one hundred years ago lining up alongside the new, ultra-modern Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR pro hypercar. Savile Row’s connection to the Beatles and Apple Records (formerly to be found at no. 3) was also marked by the inclusion of George Harrison’s Mercedes-Benz 600 (courtesy of Mercedes-Benz Heritage and Henry Poole & Co), and Paul McCartney’s Lamborghini 400GT, which was hosted by Gieves & Hawkes. Also on display for the first time was The Electric Lady (pictured, second), a collaboration between famed rock and roll photographer Gered Mankowitz and Tudor Black Coachworks, that was hosted by Norton & Sons. This all-electric Jaguar E-Type, stunningly embellished with imagery created from a 1967 Mankowitz portrait of Jimi Hendrix, was a particularly popular participant.

The Savile Row Bespoke Association (SRBA) members that partnered with automotive manufacturers, designers and collectors to take part in Concours were:

Cad & The Dandy (Chopard, plus privately-owned cars)

Dege & Skinner (Morgan)

Edward Sexton (Callum Design)

Gieves & Hawkes (Private collection of cars)

Hackett (Aston Martin)

Henry Poole & Co (Mercedes)

Huntsman (Bentley)

Norton & Sons (Tudor Black)

Richard James (Audi)

“It has been phenomenal,” said Jeremy Hackett of Savile Row Bespoke Association (SRBA) member Hackett. “The people we have been getting through the door has been fantastic – the sort of people who like classic cars like good clothes, so it’s a good fit. It’s brought a lot of people who might never have thought about coming to Savile Row over to explore all the different shops, as well as enjoying the cars.”

William Skinner of SRBA member Dege & Skinner commented: “The people who are into cars might not necessarily have thought about coming to Savile Row, so it does act as an introduction. We partnered with the Morgan Motor Company because they’re made in England, and everything to order, and they’re all hand-made. Those three criteria are exactly that we’re about.”

We hope to see you next year for another Concours.
