Look out for the shining shears! Christmas lights return to Savile Row this year in the giant, fluorescent form of the tools that are central to the work of our community: tailor’s shears.
The impressive shears (see computer generated image) will light up our street all the way from Clifford Street to Burlington Gardens. The big switch-on date is Thursday 16th November.
To celebrate the lights, a number of Savile Row Bespoke Association (SRBA) members (including Gieves & Hawkes and Norton & Sons) and other retailers on Savile Row will be open late on 16th November with mulled wine and mince pies and other festive treats on offer for visitors.
In keeping with the ethos of bespoke tailoring, sustainability is at the forefront of the new Christmas lights. The shears and accompanying Savile Row Christmas message are made from 5,154 extra-low energy LED bulbs. Recycled and recyclable plastic has also been incorporated to reduce the use of aluminium.
Jenny Caseborne, Head of Portfolio at Row landlords The Pollen Estate, says: “The Pollen Estate is delighted to introduce new Christmas lights on Savile Row, commencing the festive period at this iconic destination. The lights capture the essence of craftsmanship perfectly, with the icon of the shears at the forefront. Everyone is welcome to visit Savile Row to experience our new lights this festive season.”
