We are delighted to report that the first Pre-Apprenticeship Bespoke Tailoring course at our official training partner The London Academy of Bespoke (LAB) is underway.
Ten keen students, nine from the UK and one from Canada, are currently taking their first steps towards a career in handcrafted tailoring by learning the skills necessary to undertake full cutting, coat-making and trouser-making apprenticeships with Savile Row Bespoke Association (SRBA) members.
LAB’s teachers are all Savile Row-trained and are dedicated to sharing their skills and knowledge and ensuring the future of bespoke tailoring on our celebrated street.
“The pre-apprentices are now two weeks into their three month-long training programme,” reports Victoria Townsend, LAB’s Founder and one of its principal teachers. “They are now completing their first quarter-scale draft patterns and are already on to their coat baste. The teaching team at LAB are hugely encouraged by the whole group and their efforts.”
The interest in the SRBA-approved Pre-Apprenticeship Bespoke Tailoring course has been such that LAB is now considering running it twice-yearly.
